OVERVIEW:


WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Individuals in community-based and hospital-based organizations who provide healthcare and behavioral healthcare to people with co-occurring mental and substance use disorders.

The conference is designed for those who want to acquire more information about and practical skills that pertain to providing Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT), the evidence based practice. The conference is also designed for those seeking more contact with the professional peer-networks that will help develop, sustain, and expand integrated treatment in their organizations and communities. The conference is designed for the following:
- Direct-service providers
- Team leaders
- Program managers
- Executive administrators
- Policymakers
- Consumers
- Family members
- Advocates
- Other stakeholders


ABSTRACT
Conference participants will receive practical training in areas related to helping persons who are recovering from co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. A special emphasis is placed upon the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) model.

2 Plenary Sessions
The plenary sessions will address the future of integrated treatment for people with co-occurring disorders on a national level—from Fred Osher, MD, of SAMHSA’s COCE—and on a state level—from the Directors of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (see below).

36 Workshops
The workshops will address a wide variety of topics, including lessons learned by Ohio IDDT service teams, overviews of specific comprehensive treatment services, and overviews of these evidence-based practices:
- Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT)
- Supported Employment (SE)
- Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
- Wellness Management and Recovery (WMR)

Ohio IDDT Team Presentations
Learn from service team members how they make IDDT fit into and thrive within the culture of their organizations and communities. These teams work in different regions and communities throughout Ohio, including the following:
- Rural communities
- Small cities
- Large cities

These teams provide general IDDT services to people with co-occurring disorders as well as specialized services for specific populations, including the following:
- Homeless
- Criminal justice community re-entry
- Acute & forensic inpatient
- Multicultural


LEARNING OBJECTIVES (DAY ONE) / TUESDAY, OCT 2
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
1.) Describe stage-wise interventions for individuals and organizations for an integrated recovery process.

2.) Identify challenges, facilitators, and resources for implementing integrated treatment on a range of teams and in a range of settings (e.g., rural communities, small cities, and large cities/urban districts), as well as for homeless, criminal justice, and community-based and hospital-based consumer populations.

3.) Utilize innovations for developing workforce skills in support of recovery through relevant clinical interventions such as IDDT, motivational interviewing, comprehensive assessment, consumer and recovery centered treatment planning, medical approaches, professional and ethical issues in the clinical relationship, strength-based counseling, and dual recovery self-help support meetings; use of fidelity assessment linked with outcomes management, and issues of leadership.

4.) Develop and strengthen existing professional networks.



LEARNING OBJECTIVES (DAY TWO)/ WEDNESDAY, OCT 3
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
1.) Describe the state’s vision for co-occurring treatment and workforce development.

2.) Describe stage-wise interventions for individuals and organizations for an integrated recovery process.

3.) Identify challenges, facilitators, and resources for implementing integrated treatment on a range of teams and settings such as urban, rural, criminal justice, and multi-cultural consumer populations.

4.) Utilize innovations for developing workforce skills in support of recovery through relevant clinical interventions and approaches such as tobacco cessation, contingency management, psychopharmacology, traumatic brain injury, working with addictions, cognitive behavioral treatment, vicarious trauma and staff burnout, and employ fidelity action planning, organizational stages of change and stage-based team development.

5.) Develop and strengthen existing professional networks.
